A company owner proudly does everything by himself. I called one this other day and he said he did not need my services because he has managed the company from scratch to where it is today. His voice was certain and proud. I explained to him where I was calling from and why, we are a media agency that offer tailored services within web design and digital marketing. His argument was that he made his website himself, that he took a course a few years back where he learned these things. Photography as well, he had a high-resolution camera he used from time to time.
Basically, he turned me down. Based on my introduction he could not see any good reason why continue having the phone in his ear talking to me.
Before we almost hang up on each other I knew I needed to act fast to get his attention, I quickly complimented his great work accomplishing what he has without really using the full potential of the business. I left him hanging with a question mark in his mind. He was wondering what more are there that can be done.
– Sir. We are a media company that specialises in digital marketing, we collect data and apply the latest technology the market has to offer to help our clients. Let us pull out a few rabbits out the hat and target a revenue increase of 5%, let me show you how.
This is when I finally had him interested in having a conversation.
– You say the company made 8 million last year, now I am taking my 2%, enjoy your new car and a vacation in Spain.
